Title: Improve Your Health When You Stop Smoking
from:Did you know that as soon as you stop smoking your health and overall well-being will improve immediately. Today there are many different aids available to help you stop, and a little time to find the right aid or program for you will be beneficial to see an immediate health improvement.
It really is worth the effort – more than 400,000 people die from diseases each year, and it could have been prevented if they had only stopped smoking.
You may not be aware that if you stop smoking now, no matter what age you are, your chances of having a stroke or a heart attack will decrease. Additionally you also decrease your chance of dying from a heart attack or stroke. It is a fact that if you smoke your chances of dying from your first heart attack are more than double people who do not smoke.
You can, if you stop smoking now, decrease your risk of lung cancer by up to 5% for every two years that you don’t smoke. The result after 10 years will be to reduce your risk by up to 50% against people who continue to smoke.
For smokers, there is also evidence that there is an increased risk of cancers of the mouth, the throat, and voice box (larynx).
Developing other cancers of the intestines, pancreas, bladder and kidneys are showing strong evidence of a higher risk if you are a smoker.
Additionally for people who smoke they have more colds, and are more susceptible to other lung diseases; this is because the “cilia”, or tiny hairs in the nose and throat normally filter most of the viruses and bacteria that we breath in, but in smokers they are numbed and do not work properly.
Smokers also very often will be prone to bad breath and staining on their teeth, turning them yellow. Gum disease is twice as likely in smokers as it is in non-smokers, and will hasten the loss of teeth as age increases.
Emphysema is nearly always linked to smoking cigarettes or exposure to second hand smoke. Emphysema is when your lungs become tar bound and breathing takes greater effort.
Women who stop smoking generally have fewer problem pregnancies and are less likely to have children who are underweight at birth.
Once you look at these facts you can see why it is important to stop smoking. Generally smokers have a shorter life span because they are more likely to secumb to one of the above diseases. So if you want to live and long and healthy life – stop smoking now.
